Are RTA cabinets good quality?

RTA is a packing method, not a grade of wood. Ready-to-assemble cabinets leave the factory as the same doors, frames, and boxes as the assembled version. They just skip the glue-up so the carton is smaller and the freight is cheaper. The junk reputation comes from particleboard RTA at the big-box store, not from plywood lines like Jarlin.

What Jarlin actually puts in the box

• 1/2" cabinet-grade plywood box — not particleboard, not MDF carcass.
• Hardwood face frame, typically 3/4" × 1-1/2", doweled.
• Dovetail drawer boxes, 5/8" solid-wood sides, no finger joints.
• Full-extension soft-close undermount glides and six-way soft-close hinges, standard.
• 3/4" plywood adjustable shelves with metal rests.
• Metal corner brackets in the bases so a stone top does not rack the box.

That is the same construction on every finish we sell — Dove White, Sterling, Toffee, Ebony, Sage, Aria Blue, the raised-panel lines. Soft-close is not an upgrade SKU. If a quote from a box store charges extra for plywood or soft-close, you are not comparing the same cabinet.

How that compares to IKEA and Home Depot

IKEA Sektion is particleboard with plastic cam locks. It can look sharp in a dry apartment. In a Greenville kitchen with a dishwasher and a wet mop, the edges swell and screws lose their bite. Home Depot and Lowe’s stock lines are a mixed bag — some plywood, a lot of engineered board, and “soft-close” that is often a $40 add-on per door.

Jarlin is not custom millwork. The box is 1/2" plywood, not 3/4". Widths come in 3-inch steps. You do not get a 17-1/4" filler pulled from a CNC. For a typical Upstate remodel that is the right trade: plywood that holds screws, shipped in days, priced like stock.

Warranty, in plain English

Jarlin’s published warranty is three years on the cabinet for defects in material and workmanship, and lifetime on the drawer box, glides, and hinges for as long as the original buyer owns the home. Residential use in the U.S. only. It does not cover install labor, water damage, or cabinets you modify. We send the sheet with the quote.

Factory assembly is the same plywood box, glued and squared at Jarlin for $22 a cabinet (42" and under) or $44 for pantries and wider. Use it if you do not want a Saturday with a mallet.
